A Local Fox affiliate in Michigan reports on a man brutally killing his daughter, but no where in the report do they refer to it as an honor killing or even mention that the father was Muslim despite the mention that he was forcing his daughter to wear a ‘headscarf’:

Egyptian women's rights protest heckled

CAIRO (AP) — A protest by hundreds of Egyptian women demanding equal rights and an end to sexual harassment turned violent Tuesday when crowds of men heckled and shoved the demonstrators, telling them to go home where they belong.

The women — some in headscarves and flowing robes, others in jeans — had marched to Cairo's central Tahrir Square to celebrate International Women's Day. But crowds of men soon outnumbered them and chased them out.

"They said that our role was to stay home and raise presidents, not to run for president," said Farida Helmy, a 24-year old journalist.

Sexual harassment remains widespread in Egypt, where women often are afraid to report sexual assault or harassment for fear they and their families will be stigmatized. A 2008 survey by the Egyptian Center for Women's Rights found that 83 percent of Egyptian women and 98 percent of foreign women in Cairo said they had been harassed — while 62 percent of men admitted to harassing.

“The number of marital rape cases keeps going up but no one even acknowledges that the problem exists. We see dozens of patients coming in but they never acknowledge they have been raped; only that they were doing their duty,” says Ganga Ram Hospital consultant gynecologist Dr Shamsa Humayun.

Alviah Noor*, who is working on her PhD research paper and recently got married, said that she had severe vaginal infection for the last six months and was heavily medicated to treat an infection caused by her intra-uterine system (IUS or coil). “The coil ruined my health but it was the only contraception I could use without my husband finding out,” she said, adding that doctors had prohibited her from intercourse but her husband refused to listen to her. “I have no choice in the matter. I have to do whatever he tells me,” she said.

Nilofer Raja* complained that her husband had several extra marital affairs and that she had contracted an STD after he forced himself on her. “He abuses me but I cannot refuse him. My family told me that it was my religious duty to do as he demanded and that if I refuse the angels will curse me all night,” she told doctors.

Shirkat Gah representative Fauzia Vikar said “the concept of marital rape does not exist in our society. She is thought to have signed a contract for sex. Even in US, the first marital rape case was reported in 1978. Most reports from battered women reflect that they do not think their spouses are guilty of a crime.” “Most women I have spoken to on the issue simply think that marital rape is natural.

Man beats wife after she delivers baby girl

An Arab expatriate in Saudi Arabia stormed into the gynaecology section in a hospital, woke up his wife and beat her up for delivering a baby girl, newspapers reported on Thursday.

The unnamed husband was later overpowered and taken out by staff members and security at the hospital in the central town of Makkah.

He then accused the hospital of swapping his baby as his wife had told him previous x-rays had shown she was pregnant with a boy.

But doctors tried to calm him down and told him x-rays are not always accurate in identifying the sex of the baby.

Reduced jail term for Jordan man who killed daughter

AMMAN - A Jordanian was sentenced on Sunday to 10 years in prison for killing his daughter in 2007 over a love affair with a man she later married, a court official told AFP.

An initial sentence of 15 years passed on the 60-year-old father, who was not identified, was immediately cut by a third after the court found "mitigating circumstances," the official said.

The 25-year-old daughter, named by the official only as Hala and identified as a factory worker in Amman, was pregnant when her boyfriend asked her father for her hand in marriage, he said.

"The father agreed after the man gave him a cheque for $28,000. Following the marriage, the father kept pushing his daughter to abort the foetus, but she and her husband refused," the official said.

The father "became enraged, especially after her husband said he wanted to hold a wedding party," he added. "He went to their home when she was alone and shot her six times in the chest, head and stomach."

Girl 'electrocuted' in the name of family honour

Islamabad: A 22-year old woman was allegedly electrocuted by her relatives on the orders of a ‘panchayat’ — a council of village elders — in the name of family honour in Pakistan’s province of Punjab, a newspaper reported yesterday.

Officials here said Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had taken notice of the report and told the police to investigate and submit their findings urgently.

According to the report, Saima, of Basti Hakra village in Bahawalpur district, allegedly eloped with a man who worked in Karachi and her parents brought her back on Friday and electrocuted her at night after the ‘panchayat’ ordered her execution. It said police learnt of the incident on Saturday when she was about to be buried.

Saima’s relatives claimed she had committed suicide by taking pesticides, but a post-mortem examination arranged by the police suggested that the young woman was either electrocuted or burnt with boiling water or both, report said.

The Women of Islam: Murder in the Name of Honor

“Honor killing” is a practice of Muslims who find the behavior of family females to be objectionable. In Muslim countries there are usually laws against it, but in practice they are ignored and the guilty murderer given nothing but a token sentence, while being labeled a hero in the local Mosque. After the hubbub has died down, the guilty party is set free with little fanfare. One of the dirty little secrets the press routinely covers up for the hapless Muslim community, is the nature of the killing.

In an United Kingdom trial a year or so ago, the public learned that a young girl who had dated an infidel white boy, was tortured, sexually assaulted, and repeatedly raped by her uncle in the presence of her brother and father before the girl was killed. All for religion, of course. It turns out this may be fairly common. Who knew Muslims had so much honor?

Police hunt killer of woman hacked to death with cleaver

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 10: Police are looking for an unidentified person for hacking to death a 36-year-old Kuwaiti woman with a cleaver, reports Al-Qabas daily.
According to security sources the incident took place in front of a well-known commercial complex overlooking Bneid Al-Gar.

The daily added when police received information about the murder, personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department rushed to the spot and found the corpse lying in a pool of blood. The remains have been referred to Forensics.

According to eyewitness reports the incident happened at late evening. The victim left the complex and it is believed she was walking to her car when the suspect waiting in an American car quietly walked up to her and attacked her with the cleaver and escaped.

Surprisingly none of the eyewitnesses had the presence of mind to note down the number plate of the suspect’s vehicle.

Police investigations reveal the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, is the ex-wife of a bedoun (who has lately obtained the Canadian nationality).
She had filed a case against the man at the Faiha Police Station accusing him of several times threatening to kill her.

A trial begins on Monday in the case of a Muslim cable television producer accused of beheading his estranged wife inside a television studio the couple founded to promote cultural understanding

In the two years since Muzzammil Hassan surrendered to police, hours after killing his wife in February 2009, he has claimed spousal abuse justified the slaying.

Jury selection begins on Monday in Erie County Court in Buffalo, where Hassan, 46, is charged with second-degree murder for beheading Aasiya Hassan, who was 37.

The mother of two, who had filed for divorce days earlier, was found stabbed and decapitated at the Bridges TV offices in Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo. The couple launched Bridges TV in 2004 with a mission to show Muslims in a positive light.

A Harry Potter star was beaten and threatened with death after she met a young man who was not a Muslim.

Padma Patil was assaulted and branded a ''prostitute'' after meeting a young Hindu man, a relationship which brought anger from her father, Abul Azad, 53, and brother, Ashraf, 28, Manchester Crown Court heard. The frightened actress later fled through her bedroom window after threats were made to kill her. But despite attempts to get her to come to court for the trial of her father and brother, Miss Azad would not attend voluntarily, the court was told. Both men were charged with making threats to kill her and her brother was also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm on his sister.

Imam arrested for beating up his wife

A Muslim imam who lectures on non-violence and advises the German government on interfaith issues has been arrested in Germany for beating up his wife.

Sheikh Abu Adam, 40, is now on remand in Munich while his wife, 31, is being guarded by police. She was allegedly assaulted so badly that she suffered a broken nose and shoulder and numerous cuts and bruises. Media reports claimed the woman, who has borne one of his ten children, wanted to live a more 'western' lifestyle and was allegedly attacked after telling her husband.

Adam is alleged to have shouted a verse from the Quran at his wife as he beat her. The line said: 'Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them.'

The imam is said to have refused to let police officers into his home, but they forced their way past him because they feared the woman's life was in danger.

NAIROBI, Kenya, December 3 (CDN) — A 17-year-old girl in Somalia who converted to Christianity from Islam was shot to death last week in an apparent “honor killing,” area sources said.

Nurta Mohamed Farah, who had fled her village of Bardher, Gedo Region to Galgadud Region to live with relatives after her parents tortured her for leaving Islam, died on Nov. 25. Area sources said they strongly suspected that the two unidentified men in Galgadud Region who shot her in the chest and head with a pistol were relatives or acting on their behest.

“Reports reached the relatives in Galgadud that Nurta Farah had converted to Christianity,” one source said. “The suspicion that the family is responsible is a solid one.

The sister was killed in Abudwaq, a district in Galgadud Region, and the place where the incident took place is about 200 meters from where the sister was staying with relatives.”

Relatives buried Farah, sources said. Her parents had severely beaten her for leaving Islam and regularly shackled her to a tree at their home, Christian sources said. She had been confined to her home in Gedo region in southern Somalia since May 10, when her family found out that she had embraced Christianity, said a Christian leader who visited the area.

Her parents also took her to a doctor who prescribed medication for a “mental illness,” he said. Alarmed by her determination to keep her faith, her father, Hassan Kafi Ilmi, and mother, Hawo Godane Haf, decided she had gone crazy and forced her to take the prescribed medication, but it had no effect in swaying her from her faith.

Trafficking of young girls booms in the Balkans

Even 12-year-old girls from good families can end up forced into prostitution in Bosnia. First the pimps spy on a girl and figure out who in her family she loves the most. Then they tell her they're going to kill that very person if she refuses to work as a prostitute for them. That's according to Mara Radovanovic of the women's organization LARA in Bosnia, which is now supported by the international organization CARE. Radovanovic has established a network to fight human trafficking and set up a women's shelter in a secret location where she cares for victims.

Other girls are drugged and then gang raped in motels. The perpetrators film everything and then threaten to put the video on the Internet. The fear of public humiliation silences the girls. Radovanovic told Deutsche Welle that even supposed "leaders" of Bosnian society are involved in these crimes.

Quran tells men to beat disobedient wives

A top judicial official in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday tried to allay concerns raised by a controversial ruling from the country’s highest court upholding the right of a Muslim to beat his wife and children.

Islamic scholars cite the Quran itself in defending wife-beating – specifically, a sura that instructs Muslim husbands with disobedient wives to admonish them, then to refuse to sleep with them, and finally to beat them.

A Pakistani woman has died in Italy after her husband beat her with a brick for opposing the arranged marriage of her daughter, triggering a wave of outrage among Italian politicians on Monday.

The daughter, 20-year-old Nosheen Butt, was admitted to hospital with a cranial traumatism and a broken arm after her 19-year-old brother beat her with a stick in the courtyard of their building in Novi, near the north Italy city of Modena.

According to Modena prosecutors' initial findings, the father Ahmad Khan Butt, a 53-year-old construction worker, threw his wife to the ground and beat her with a brick while the brother Umair attacked his sister.
