British Christian Doctor Faces Dismissal Over Faith Talk

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (BosNewsLife)-- A British family doctor on Tuesday, May 24, defended suggesting faith in Jesus Christ to a patient last year despite facing disciplinary action and concerns he could lose his job.

"After doing the standard medicine I said to him: 'Look there is something else that could help you here',"explained Dr. Richard Scott, 50, in an interview. Dr. Scott said he told the patient, "If you like we can discuss and have faith and that could be an advantage to you in this case, and could help you move forward and give you some hope for the future."

The Cambridge-educated doctor, who works at Christian-oriented Bethesda Medical Center in Margate, Kent, stressed he only discussed how his faith in Jesus had helped him "at the end of the consultation" -- with the 24-year-old patient’s "consent".

But the General Medical Council (GMC) said it is considering disciplinary action because the patient's mother had complained about the faith discussion. The GMC made clear Dr. Scott risked bringing his profession into disrepute by discussing Christianity.

Tanzania Woman Kept As Slave By Doctor In London

An African woman was kept as a slave at the home of a retired doctor in London for four years, a court has heard. Mwanahamisi Mruke was flown from Tanzania in October 2006 and made to work 18-hours a day carrying out chores for Saeeda Khan, 68, jurors were told.

Southwark Crown Court heard Miss Mruke, 47, was denied her passport and liberty and endured the ordeal to support her daughter through college in Africa. Khan, of Whitmore Road, Harrow, North-West London, denies people trafficking. In a police interview Miss Mruke said she was expected to work from 6am until midnight cooking, cleaning, gardening, and accompanying Ms Khan's disabled son on walks, often in the middle of the night.

The jury also heard she had to sleep on the kitchen floor despite undergoing an operation on varicose veins in her leg. Miss Mruke said she was paid £120 for her first year's work and received no pay for the following three years.

A total of 50,000 Tanzanian shillings (£20) was sent to her daughter each month for two years, the court heard. Prosecutor Caroline Haughey said: "Deprived of her passport, communication with her family and her liberty, it is only right that the conditions she existed under with Saeeda Khan be described as modern-day slavery, exploitation, domestic servitude and abuse."

Pervert imam faces sentence over rape and sexual assault

RAPIST imam Mohammed Hanif Khan will be sentenced next week.

The pervert has been remanded in custody since being convicted of raping a schoolboy at his mosque and sexually assaulting a second boy.

Now Khan will find out how long he will spend behind bars when he is sentenced on Friday, March 18.

Nottingham Crown Court heard in January how the two victims, who were under 18, attended the mosque in Capper Street, Tunstall, where Khan was the imam.

The 41-year-old raped one of the boys following prayers at his mosque, while he assaulted the second boy at his then home in Crestfield Road, Meir.

Trash collectors won’t pick up energy-saving bulbs

Councils across the UK are refusing to pick up low-energy lightbulbs from homes as they contain toxic mercury, which gives off poisonous vapours.

But confused consumers are putting the new bulbs – classed as hazardous waste – in their dustbins when they burn out, potentially putting the safety of thousands of binmen at risk.

Previously, the public disposed of traditional lightbulbs, used in Britain for 120 years, in a domestic bin.

However, they are being phased out under a European Union ruling and are being replaced with energy-saving bulbs, many of which contain mercury.

Information about every Trident missile the US supplies to Britain will be given to Russia as part of an arms control deal signed by President Barack Obama next week.

Defence analysts claim the agreement risks undermining Britain’s policy of refusing to confirm the exact size of its nuclear arsenal.

The fact that the Americans used British nuclear secrets as a bargaining chip also sheds new light on the so-called “special relationship”, which is shown often to be a one-sided affair by US diplomatic communications obtained by the WikiLeaks website.

EU School Children Diary Omits Christian Holidays

LONDON // The European Union was condemned yesterday for producing 3.2 million copies of a children's diary for 2011 that ignores all Christian holidays.

The diary, which cost 5 million euros (Dh24.6m) to produce and is distributed to pupils at 21,000 secondary schools throughout the EU, does contain the dates of Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Chinese and Sikh religious holidays.

Christian groups in France, Poland and Italy have all lodged complaints with the executive body of the EU, the European Commission, which annually produces the diary. There is no mention in it of Christmas, Easter or any other Christian holiday.

Muslim teacher molested girls during lessons on the Koran

A TEACHER who instructed children on the Koran has been jailed for three years and three months after he was convicted of sexual assault against girls as young as four.

Ashraf Miah, 38, of Joseph Street, Mile End, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday following his conviction by a jury on 13 charges of sexual assault between 2005 and 2009.

The offences happened when Miah was entrusted to teach young girls to read from the Koran either at his home theirs.

The crimes came to notice when Miah was arrested in November 2009 for offences against two of the girls. During the investigation, dealt with by detectives from the Child Abuse Investigation Team, other children that had been taught by Miah were contacted and more offences came to notice, leading to his further arrest in January 2010.

He was convicted on all 13 counts.

The failure of Britain’s wind farms to produce electricity in the extreme cold will cost billions of pounds, create an economic crisis and lead to blackouts, leading industrialists have warned.

To cover up the ineffectiveness of wind farms the Government will be forced to build emergency back-up power plants, the cost of which will be paid by industry and consumers.

Jeremy Nicholson, director of the Energy Intensive Users Group, which represents major companies employing hundreds of thousands of workers in the steel, glass, pottery, paper and chemical industries, said the failure of wind power had profound implications.

He was speaking after new figures showed that during the latest cold snap wind turbines produced less than two per cent of the nation’s electricity.

Now Mr Nicholson predicts that the Government will encourage power companies to build billions of pounds worth of standby power stations in case of further prolonged wind failures.

And the cost of the standby generation will be paid for by industry and households through higher bills – which could double by 2020.

Christmas shoppers and partygoers are feared to have been the target of 12 men who were arrested by anti-terror police early yesterday. The suspects, aged between 17 and 28, are accused of preparing Al Qaeda-inspired attacks on ‘mass casualty’ targets such as shopping malls and nightclubs. They were taken into custody after more than 150 officers from four forces swooped on homes in London, Stoke-on-Trent, Birmingham and Cardiff at 5am. Senior security sources described the arrests as ‘hugely significant’.

Britain’s winter ends tomorrow with further indications of a striking environmental change: snow is starting to disappear from our lives.

Sledges, snowmen, snowballs and the excitement of waking to find that the stuff has settled outside are all a rapidly diminishing part of Britain’s culture, as warmer winters – which scientists are attributing to global climate change – produce not only fewer white Christmases, but fewer white Januaries and Februaries…

According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event... Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said.



Britain in 2010:

More than 40cm (16in) of snow fell in some parts of Scotland and up to 40cm blanketed parts of North-east England, but the coldest of the weather so far was felt in Wales. In Llysdinam, Powys, the temperature sank to -18C, the coldest on record for Wales in November and far below the previous low of -11.2 recorded in 1921. Northern Ireland also suffered its coldest November night ever, with -9.5 at Lough Fea. The previous record was -9C in 1978, the Met Office in London said.
