Tanzania Woman Kept As Slave By Doctor In London

An African woman was kept as a slave at the home of a retired doctor in London for four years, a court has heard. Mwanahamisi Mruke was flown from Tanzania in October 2006 and made to work 18-hours a day carrying out chores for Saeeda Khan, 68, jurors were told.

Southwark Crown Court heard Miss Mruke, 47, was denied her passport and liberty and endured the ordeal to support her daughter through college in Africa. Khan, of Whitmore Road, Harrow, North-West London, denies people trafficking. In a police interview Miss Mruke said she was expected to work from 6am until midnight cooking, cleaning, gardening, and accompanying Ms Khan's disabled son on walks, often in the middle of the night.

The jury also heard she had to sleep on the kitchen floor despite undergoing an operation on varicose veins in her leg. Miss Mruke said she was paid £120 for her first year's work and received no pay for the following three years.

A total of 50,000 Tanzanian shillings (£20) was sent to her daughter each month for two years, the court heard. Prosecutor Caroline Haughey said: "Deprived of her passport, communication with her family and her liberty, it is only right that the conditions she existed under with Saeeda Khan be described as modern-day slavery, exploitation, domestic servitude and abuse."

The Constitution Did Not Condone Slavery

The idea that our Constitution “condoned” slavery and was therefore an immoral document unworthy of being viewed with reverence is a stock liberal claim. It is false.

Most of the Founders wanted to abolish the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Jefferson had denounced that “execrable traffic” in his first draft of the Declaration of Independence.

But South Carolina and Georgia delegates would not go along and, significantly, some in New England recognized the powerful influence of merchants whose ships included slavers.

But they were able to get into the original Constitution a provision which allowed Congress to ban the Slave Trade in twenty years. How odd for all those Washington liberals who today tout compromise to attack as immoral and vile this most important of compromises. Would most of the Founders have so desperately wanted to ban the Slave Trade if they thought it a good thing? If they condoned it?

It baffles me that we’re taught that Democrats are the civil rights champions. They are absolutely the opposite.

First of all, the Republican party was created to be the party against slavery because the Democrats were pro-slavery, and good people knew it was un-Christian and morally wrong. Lincoln was a Republican, and not in “name only” as so-called scholars are teaching on campuses across the country. You’d never know it by how Republicans are portrayed now, but we were THE anti-slavery party, and we still are.

The very first Republican president freed the slaves and was hated for it. He was consequentially murdered by a Democrat.

Family devastation was one of the most damning aspects of a slave-owning society. A constant pain to the slave was not having “relations.” This broken human link weakened the resolve of slaves to fight for freedom, giving slave masters greater power.

Today our very own government plays the role of master. The advent of public housing and public assistance programs landed our community in peril. As the government replaced fathers with welfare checks and food stamps, out-of-wedlock births in the U.S. went from five percent in 1960 to 38.5 percent as of 2005 among the entire population. For the black community, the statistics are worse — up 70 percent today.

Family structure is vital to an individual’s prosperity and success. Government will have people believe that those 70 percent of black children born out of wedlock are safe as long as there are enough food stamps, public schools and universal health care to go around. But some of us know better.
