The cost of sustainable energy is unsustainable

Britain discovers that the cost of
sustainable energy is, in a word, unsustainable

by Tom Mcghie

The failure of Britain’s wind farms to produce electricity in the extreme cold will cost billions of pounds, create an economic crisis and lead to blackouts, leading industrialists have warned.

To cover up the ineffectiveness of wind farms the Government will be forced to build emergency back-up power plants, the cost of which will be paid by industry and consumers.

Jeremy Nicholson, director of the Energy Intensive Users Group, which represents major companies employing hundreds of thousands of workers in the steel, glass, pottery, paper and chemical industries, said the failure of wind power had profound implications.

He was speaking after new figures showed that during the latest cold snap wind turbines produced less than two per cent of the nation’s electricity.

Now Mr Nicholson predicts that the Government will encourage power companies to build billions of pounds worth of standby power stations in case of further prolonged wind failures.

And the cost of the standby generation will be paid for by industry and households through higher bills – which could double by 2020.

Obama: France is our Strongest Friend and Ally?

by Jonathon M. Seidl

“We don’t have a stronger friend and stronger ally than Nicolas Sarkozy, and the French people,” Obama said while seated next to the French president.

To be fair, it could just be a case of inflated praise regularly poured on visiting dignitaries. While we may not have a “stronger” ally, maybe all our allies are equally as strong. But that’s not how some in Britain are interpreting the comment.

“Quite what the French have done to merit this kind of high praise from the US president is difficult to fathom, and if the White House means what it says this represents an extraordinary sea change in US foreign policy,” political analyst Nile Gardiner writes in the Telegraph. “Nicolas Sarkozy is a distinctly more pro-American president than any of his predecessors, and has been an important ally over issues such as Iran and the War on Terror. But to suggest that Paris and not London is Washington’s strongest partner is simply ludicrous.”

The Constitution Did Not Condone Slavery

by Ken Blackwell

The idea that our Constitution “condoned” slavery and was therefore an immoral document unworthy of being viewed with reverence is a stock liberal claim. It is false.

Most of the Founders wanted to abolish the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Jefferson had denounced that “execrable traffic” in his first draft of the Declaration of Independence.

But South Carolina and Georgia delegates would not go along and, significantly, some in New England recognized the powerful influence of merchants whose ships included slavers.

But they were able to get into the original Constitution a provision which allowed Congress to ban the Slave Trade in twenty years. How odd for all those Washington liberals who today tout compromise to attack as immoral and vile this most important of compromises. Would most of the Founders have so desperately wanted to ban the Slave Trade if they thought it a good thing? If they condoned it?

Buffalo man accused of beheading wife goes to trial

A trial begins on Monday in the case of a Muslim cable television producer accused of beheading his estranged wife inside a television studio the couple founded to promote cultural understanding

by Neale Gulley
In the two years since Muzzammil Hassan surrendered to police, hours after killing his wife in February 2009, he has claimed spousal abuse justified the slaying.

Jury selection begins on Monday in Erie County Court in Buffalo, where Hassan, 46, is charged with second-degree murder for beheading Aasiya Hassan, who was 37.

The mother of two, who had filed for divorce days earlier, was found stabbed and decapitated at the Bridges TV offices in Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo. The couple launched Bridges TV in 2004 with a mission to show Muslims in a positive light.

Update: Israel Asks Saudi Arabia to Free ‘Spy’ Vulture

by Meredith Jessup

After police authorities in Saudi Arabia “arrested” a vulture for allegedly spying for Israel, Israeli scientists are asking the Saudi government to release their bird.

The vulture prompted Saudis to take action against to thwart the “Zionist plot” after authorities discovered it had been tagged with a transmitter labeled “Tel Aviv University.” But Ohad Hatzofe, an Israeli avian ecologist, told the UK’s Telegraph that the bird was only carrying a GPS tracker so scientists could track its movement, noting that the bird may not even have originated in Israel.

“This bird didn’t stay in Israel in the breeding season, so it might be a Turkish bird, it might be a Jordanian bird, or even be Saudi Arabian.”

The Government Let Me Get Fat

by Jonathon M. Seidl

The government let me get fat.

That‘s the argument of the former world’s fattest man, a British citizen who once weighed 980 pounds. 50-year-old Paul Mason is suing the British National Health Service (NHS) saying that he reached out for help but didn’t get the kind he wanted. That’s despite the fact that the government paid for his gastric bypass surgery that led to him shedding 462 pounds.

The total cost of Mason’s care over the last 15 years has been about 1 million British pound sterlings, or over $1.5 million U.S.

That figure has many in Britain outraged. And that outrage shows just how sticky government health care can be: How does a government balance fiscal responsibility with citizen health and care? How much money is allocated to each patient, especially in an era where austerity is necessary? When resources are scarce, who gets what?

Vulture arrested for spying after flying into Saudi Arabia

by Daily Mail Reporter

Authorities in Saudi Arabia arrested a suspected Mossad spy when they captured a vulture. The bird, tagged at Tel Aviv University for a science study, flew into Saudi territory, where it was nabbed, according to Haaretz News Service. The bird was wearing a transmitter and leg bracelet as part of a migration research project, but the tags bore the words 'Tel Aviv University' and prompted suspicion. Residents and local reporters told Saudi Arabia's Al-Weeam newspaper that the Israeli bird seemed as though it could be a 'Zionist plot.' News of the bird's arrest went viral and people on Arab-language blogs insisted Zionists had trained and released the vulture to spy.

Media Lies and Israel

When Israeli leftists turn against their country with horrendous lies, the world media is only too happy to disseminate them

by Caroline B. Glick

On Sunday December 19, the self-proclaimed "Israeli human rights" group B'tselem disseminated a shocking story to the local and international media. B'tselem claimed that the previous day Palestinian shepherd Samir Bani Fadel was peacefully herding his sheep when he was set upon by a mob of Israeli settlers. He alleged that these kippah-clad Israelis drove up in a car and chased him away. Then they torched the pasture and burned 12 pregnant ewes alive and badly burned five others. B'tselem furnished reporters with graphic photos of the dead sheep.

While the media published the account without a shred of suspicion, the police found Fadel's account hard to believe. Observant Jews neither drive nor light fires on Saturdays.

And indeed, when questioned by police investigators, Fadel admitted he made the whole attack up. He accidentally killed his herd himself when he set fire to a pile of bramble. Too embarrassed to admit his mistake, he decided to blame the Jews and become a local hero. B'tselem was only too happy to spread his lies.

Pakistani religious groups cheer killing of governor

by Saeed Shah

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The increasing radicalization of Pakistani society was laid bare Wednesday when the nation's mainstream religious organizations applauded the murder of provincial governor Salman Taseer earlier this week, while his killer was showered with rose petals as he appeared in court.

Taseer, 66, the governor of Punjab, the country's most heavily populated province, was assassinated Tuesday by one of his police bodyguards after Taseer had campaigned to ease Pakistan's blasphemy law. Religious groups threatened to kill others who questioned the blasphemy statute, which is designed to protect Islam and the Prophet Muhammad from "insult."

KFC Muslim Employee Screams Insults
At Customer Asking For Bacon

(Warning: Video contains graphic language. Viewer discretion is advised.)

by Meredith Jessup

A worker at a Sydney Kentucky Fried Chicken has been suspended for going on a violent, curse-laden tirade after a customer asked for bacon.

The violent outburst happened at a Halal-friendly KFC in Punchbowl on December 26, allegedly after a customer became angry after being refused bacon on their burger.

The Punchbowl restaurant does not serve bacon or pork in accordance with Islamic law, and one employee can be heard saying “we don’t have bacon” before the other begins yelling.

“Don’t record me bitch!” he screams as he approaches the counter. “Don’t f—ing record me!”

The employee continues to yell and smacks the cash register display on its side, before other workers grab him and lead him outside.

“I’m gonna f—in break your head bro,” he says to the person filming as he is led around the corner out of sight.

A spokesman for KFC Australia told ninemsn the employee had been suspended over the incident and offered counseling.

“KFC Australia strongly condemns the behavior of the team member who appears in the clip and sincerely apologizes for this very inappropriate reaction,” the spokesman said.
