Saudi Student Charged With Plotting to Bomb Bush House

LUBBOCK, Texas -- A college student from Saudi Arabia who studied chemical engineering in Texas bought explosive chemicals online as part of a plan to hide bomb materials inside dolls and baby carriages to blow up dams, nuclear plants or the Dallas home of former President George W. Bush, the Justice Department said Thursday.

"After mastering the English language, learning how to build explosives and continuous planning to target the infidel Americans, it is time for jihad," or holy war, Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari wrote in his private journal, according to court documents.

'Jihad Jane's' Arrest Raises Fears About Homegrown Terrorists

The arrest of a suburban Pennsylvania woman known by the alias Jihad Jane, who allegedly plotted with Islamic radicals abroad to kill a Swedish cartoonist, has raised fears about homegrown terrorists in the United States who may be difficult to spot.

"This woman might as well have advertised in the Washington Post," former White House counterterrorism official and ABC News consultant Richard Clarke said on "Good Morning America" today. "It was easy for the FBI to find her, but there are other people who are much more covert."

"There will likely be more attacks," Clarke said. "Hopefully, they will be small, and hopefully, we can catch them early." Colleen R. LaRose, 46, of Montgomery, Pa., was arrested in October 2009 and charged with trying to recruit Islamic fighters and plotting to assassinate a Swedish cartoonist who made fun of prophet Mohammed, according to a federal indictment unsealed Tuesday.

More Muslim Hate Speech Ignored By The Media

A suspicious package mailed to state Sen. Greg Ball containing a stuffed Curious George monkey pinned with Stars of David and a vicious, anti-Semitic and racially charged screed left the Republican undaunted, saying he will continue pushing forward with his agenda on national security.

"A threat like this I let law enforcement do their job," said Ball, R-Carmel, Tuesday night. "Letters that do keep me up at night are from rank-and-file law enforcement and personnel worried about weaknesses in security."

State police responded at 1:05 p.m. to Ball's office in Albany's Legislative Office Building Tuesday where they said they found the package that also contained a vial with an unknown substance. The Albany Fire Department Hazardous Materials team transported the contents to a Department of Health laboratory for analysis, police said. An investigation is ongoing.

The letter signed by Jameela Barnette with kind regards accused Ball, a Catholic, of being a Jew-worshipping, Muslim hater.

"Instead of bashing the intellectually superior Muslims, shouldn't a handsome, cannibalized crazy, Christian cracker like yourself be in church chomping on Jew-god corpse and washing it down with Jew-god blood under the pretense of 'Holy Communion,' " the letter stated.

The one-page diatribe went on to talk about the Curious George present, saying ..."the plush monkey/miniature Jew I have gifted you with is an accurate representation of who the Jews are and what you stupid Christians worship."

Virginia man sentenced to 23 years for Metro bombing plot

A Virginia man charged with plotting attacks on Washington-area Metro stations under the belief that he was aiding al Qaeda has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.

Farooque Ahmed, 35, of Ashburn, Va., pleaded guilty to charges of “attempting to provide material support to a designated terrorist organization and collecting information to assist in planning a terrorist attack on a transit facility,” according to a statement released Monday by the Department of Justice.

Born in Pakistan, the naturalized U.S. citizen met with people he believed were connected to al Qaeda and photographed and studied Metrorail stations for coordinated bombings last October, according to authorities.

“Mr. Ahmed today admitted he was determined to kill as many people as possible through multiple bombings at the heart of our nation’s capital,” U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride said in the statement. “It’s chilling that a man from Ashburn could admit to planning these acts of terrorism, and a 23-year sentence is a just punishment. We are grateful for the outstanding work of the FBI in detecting and disrupting this plot.”

Ethiopian Christians flee after church burnings

Evangelical churches and homes have been burnt down by mobs of Muslims in the southwestern Jimma region of Ethiopia. The attacks have left at least one person dead and 7,000 displaced. “This is a strategically planned attack by an extremist Islamic group.”

“It is a miracle that we are standing here talking,” says Wolde Giorgis, a primary school teacher and devout Christian, standing in front of the burnt remainders of what used to be the largest Pentecostal church of Asendabo, a town in the southwest of Ethiopia that is predominantly Muslim.

Wolde Giorgis doesn’t believe peace will be restored

Wolde says to fear for his life. “I will leave this place as soon as possible, like so many Christians already did. I don’t know what will be next: first they burn our churches and houses. Are they going to kill us now?”

69 churches burnt down
Evangelical churches and homes of Christians in Asendabo, about 300 kilometers southwest of capital Addis Ababa, and other towns in the Jimma region were torched earlier this month. Thousands of them have fled their hometowns to safer areas.

More than 46 churches belonging to the Pentecostal Kale Hiwot (Word of Life) Church and 23 belonging to other Christian groups have been burnt down, says Temesgen Wolde, coordinator of the Kale Hiwot department in Jimma City. His church shelters eighty refugee Christians in a tent.

A New York City construction worker who witnessed the terrorist attacks on 9/11 is very pleased the proposed "Ground Zero Victory Mosque" project has been stopped dead in its tracks.

Recently The Associated Press reported that Daisy Khan, wife of Imam Feisel Abdul Rauf, said that they were "pursuing a new vision for the future." Khan and Rauf had a major role in founding the mosque that was to be built near "Ground Zero" in New York City, but were effectively fired from the organization in January by fellow founder Sharif El-Gamal.

Andy Sullivan is a lifelong New York City construction worker and founder of the 9/11 Hard Hat Pledge -- one of the groups working to prevent the construction of the mosque near where the World Trade Center once stood. He says despite El-Gamal's reported commitment to move forward with the project, it is going to be tough to do without Rauf.

Mississippi judge demands homeschool student IDs

A Mississippi state judge has issued an order to public school attendance officers in his judicial district to provide the names of all homeschoolers there, prompting alarm at the Home School Legal Defense Association, which fights for the rights of homeschooling worldwide.

The order apparently is because the judge himself wants the information, as there appeared to be no case, motion or dispute prompting the request.

The HSLDA, which was alerted by its members in the 13th Chancery Court district in Mississippi, where Judge Joe Dale Walker issued the order, immediately sought and obtained a stay of the order from the state Supreme Court.

The judge's order noted that the "cause" for the order "came on for hearing on the court's own motion," but the HSLDA said apparently no hearing ever was held – and the order is the only document in the court file.

It also has no case number, the organization said.

Irony of ironies, wind energy — a preferred form of renewable energy among environmentalists — has animal rights advocates concerned about the hundreds of thousands of birds killed by wind turbines.

On Tuesday an international bird watchdog group based in Spain, Save the Eagles International (STEI), warned that the expected construction of 3.5 million wind turbines worldwide will result in the extinction of a variety of bird species.

STEI is calling for a moratorium on all wind farm construction and an investigation into whether the threat to wildlife is worth the amount of energy produced — when, they say, there are so many other, more efficient sources of energy.

EU to ban cars from cities by 2050

Cars will be banned from London and all other cities across Europe under a draconian EU masterplan to cut CO2 emissions by 60 per cent over the next 40 years.

The European Commission on Monday unveiled a "single European transport area" aimed at enforcing "a profound shift in transport patterns for passengers" by 2050.

The plan also envisages an end to cheap holiday flights from Britain to southern Europe with a target that over 50 per cent of all journeys above 186 miles should be by rail.

Top of the EU's list to cut climate change emissions is a target of "zero" for the number of petrol and diesel-driven cars and lorries in the EU's future cities.

Siim Kallas, the EU transport commission, insisted that Brussels directives and new taxation of fuel would be used to force people out of their cars and onto "alternative" means of transport.

"That means no more conventionally fuelled cars in our city centres," he said. "Action will follow, legislation, real action to change behaviour."

Attackers killed by own explosives in central Nigeria

JOS, Nigeria (Reuters) - Two men were killed in the central Nigerian city of Jos on Sunday when explosives they were carrying on a motorbike went off, preventing what local residents said was an attempted attack on a Christian community.

More than 200 people have been killed in sectarian violence since late last year in and around Jos, which lies in Nigeria's "Middle Belt" between the mostly-Muslim north and predominantly Christian south.

Christian youths angered by what they took to be an attempted attack by members of the Muslim Hausa-Fulani ethnic group set fire to the corpses of the two men in the Nasarawa Gwom area of Jos, police commissioner Abdulrahman Akano said.

"The explosives killed the two men. They died instantly," Akano told Reuters. Some reports said the attack had been meant for a nearby church, but Akano said it was impossible to say where the men had been headed.
