by Connor Boyack, with Brian Roberts and Michael Boldin
Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Justice upped the ante in a high-stakes political game of chicken. Lobbying against pending legislation in the Texas legislature which would criminalize any searches conducted without probable cause, U.S. Attorney John E. Murphy sent a letter to a few high-ranking members of Texas’ government warning against promoting the bill and threatening a complete closure of all flights to and from the state.
“If HR [sic] 1937 were enacted, the federal government would likely seek an emergency stay of the statute,” Murphy wrote. “Unless or until such a stay were granted, TSA would likely be required to cancel any flight or series of flights for which it could not ensure the safety of passengers and crew.”
No doubt written with the threatening intent one reads into it, Murphy added: “We urge that you consider the ramifications of this bill before casting your vote.”
Previous to the federal government’s threat, the Texas legislature had considered the ramifications of the bill. More importantly, they were responding to a clear need to uphold the Fourth Amendment and ensure that each person enjoys the right “to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures” — a right which the U.S. Constitution mandates “shall not be violated.”
Repeated TSA violations of the Fourth Amendment
That need has demonstrated itself in great abundance in past months, as the TSA has aggressively pursued its new policy of invasive searches and seizures at the nation’s airports. The “ramifications” to which the U.S. Attorney refers are evidently an easily dismissed matter of little importance to the federal government; to those affected by these policies, the ramifications of a bill seeking to prevent further occurrences is no doubt a welcome development.
It was less than a month ago at the Dallas, TX airport where former Miss USA Susie Castillo tearfully produced a viral video describing the molestation she had just then endured at the hands of a TSA agent. “I mean, she actually… touched my vagina,” Castillo said through her tears. “They’re making me… choose to either get molested… or go through this machine that’s completely unhealthy and dangerous. I don’t want to go through it, and here I am crying.”

Almost a decade after Middle Eastern terrorists with expired visas attacked the U.S., the government has failed to implement a security measure to adequately track foreigners like them who enter the country legally but never leave.
As a result nearly half of the nation’s estimated 12 million illegal immigrants actually entered the U.S. legally but overstayed their visa, according to a new federal report. That’s because the agency responsible for keeping the nation safe—the Department of Homeland Security—can’t keep track of immigrants who remain in the U.S. after their visas expire.

Michael Newdow, whose previous First Amendment challenge sought to remove the reference to the Almighty from the Pledge of Allegiance, strikes out yet again
by Warren Richey
The US Supreme Court on Monday refused to take up an atheist challenge to the use of the phrase, "So help me God," at the conclusion of the presidential oath of office during a president-elect's inauguration.
The lawsuit initially asked a federal judge to block Chief Justice John Roberts from reciting "So help me God" while administering the oath in January 2009 to President-elect Obama. It also sought an order preventing two members of the clergy from conducting an invocation and benediction during the 2009 inauguration.
A federal judge threw the suit out, ruling that the atheists lacked the necessary legal standing to bring the litigation.

Yes, we do have a freak show going on these days. But none of our Monstres Sacrés can match the latest Fatwa published by the (respected) Islamic Scholar and member of the religious establishment, Abdelbari Zemzami. He basically allows sexual intercourse with a corpse. Yes. Necrophilia is now Halal in Morocco by the grace of Alem Zemzami.
I should perhaps be more specific in Zemzami’s Fatwa: he allows the widowed husband to have sexual intercourse with the corpse of his deceased wife.
Zemzami justifies his ruling by means of analogy: Since a good Muslim couple will meet again in Heaven, and since death does not alter the marital contract (in his opinion) it is not a hindrance to the husband’s desire to have sexual intercourse with the corpse of his (freshly) deceased wife. A deranged mind and flawed logical thinking seem not to be part of the position of Senior Alem’s requirements. I am no Islamic Scholar (thank God) but I remember from my (compulsory and utterly boring) High School Islamic courses that there is a minimum amount of logical thinking when the Imam (or Alem) makes their Ijtihad, or investigations. And quite frankly, I really don’t see how he managed to find a ruling for the deceased; The Islamic literature is very extensive on the living (as it normally it should be) but Zemzami’s ruling tops them all. He seemed to overlook the procreating objective of marital mating.

$50 Light Bulbs to go on sale next year
by Peter Svensson
NEW YORK – Two leading makers of lighting products are showcasing LED bulbs that are bright enough to replace energy-guzzling 100-watt light bulbs set to disappear from stores in January.
Their demonstrations at the LightFair trade show in Philadelphia this week mean that brighter LED bulbs will likely go on sale next year, but after a government ban takes effect.
The new bulbs will also be expensive — about $50 each — so the development may not prevent consumers from hoarding traditional bulbs.
The technology in traditional "incandescent" bulbs is more than a century old. Such bulbs waste most of the electricity that feeds them, turning it into heat. The 100-watt bulb, in particular, produces so much heat that it's used in Hasbro's Easy-Bake Oven.
To encourage energy efficiency, Congress passed a law in 2007 mandating that bulbs producing 100 watts worth of light meet certain efficiency goals, starting in 2012. Conventional light bulbs don't meet those goals, so the law will prohibit making or importing them. The same rule will start apply to remaining bulbs 40 watts and above in 2014. Since January, California has already banned stores from restocking 100-watt incandescent bulbs.

Biblical Temple Exhibit In His Backyard

Herod's Temple
Alec Garrard, 78, has dedicated a massive 33,000 hours to constructing the ancient Herod's Temple, which measures a whopping 20 foot by 12 foot. The pensioner has hand-baked and painted every clay brick and tile and even sculpted 4,000 tiny human figures to populate the courtyards.
Historical experts believe the model is the best representation in the world of what the Jewish temple actually looked like and it has attracted thousands of visitors from all over the globe.
But Mr. Garrard, who started the elaborate project in his 40s, says his masterpiece will not be finished in his lifetime.
"I've always loved making models and as I was getting older I started to think about making one big project which would see me through to the end of my life," he said.
"I have an interest in buildings and religion so I thought maybe I could combine the two and I came up with the idea of doing the Temple.
"I have been working on it for decades but it will never be finished as I'm always finding something new to add."
Mr. Garrard, from Norfolk , spent more than three years researching the Temple, which was destroyed by the Romans 2000 years ago and deemed to be one of the most remarkable buildings of ancient times.
He then started to construct the amazing 1:100 scale model, which is now housed in a huge building in his back garden.
"Everything is made by hand. I cut plywood frames for the walls and buildings and all the clay bricks and tiles were baked in the oven then stuck together," he said.
Mr. Garrard sculpted and painted 4,000 figures, measuring just half an inch and all wearing their correct costumes.
Visitors come from all over the world to see the model and Mr. Garrard provides binoculars so they can see all the details.
"I personally know all the top archaeologists from Jerusalem and I've had experts from the British Museum visit," he says.

When liberal investor George Soros gave $1.8 million to National Public Radio , it became part of the firestorm of controversy that jeopardized NPR’s federal funding. But that gift only hints at the widespread influence the controversial billionaire has on the mainstream media. Soros, who spent $27 million trying to defeat President Bush in 2004, has ties to more than 30 mainstream news outlets – including The New York Times, Washington Post, the Associated Press, NBC and ABC.
Prominent journalists like ABC’s Christiane Amanpour and former Washington Post editor and now Vice President Len Downie serve on boards of operations that take Soros cash. This despite the Society of Professional Journalists' ethical code stating: “avoid all conflicts real or perceived.”
This information is part of an upcoming report by the Media Research Centers Business & Media Institute which has been looking into George Soros and his influence on the media.
The investigative reporting start-up ProPublica is a prime example. ProPublica, which recently won its second Pulitzer Prize, initially was given millions of dollars from the Sandler Foundation to “strengthen the progressive infrastructure” – “progressive” being the code word for very liberal. In 2010, it also received a two-year contribution of $125,000 each year from the Open Society Foundations. In case you wonder where that money comes from, the OSF website is www.soros.org. It is a network of more than 30 international foundations, mostly funded by Soros, who has contributed more than $8 billion to those efforts.

A disturbing photograph which shows a baby being subjected to a full body search by airport security has caused outrage after it was posted online.
The picture, which was uploaded to a social networking site, appears to show two TSA agents at Kansas City International Airport laughing as they pat down the child, who is being held in the air by his mother.
Perhaps concerned that the toddler might be smuggling weapons in his diaper, the burly security guard and his female assistant focus their attention on the lower half of the child's body.

A May Day rally in Los Angeles, co-sponsored by the SEIU and various communist groups, as well as other unions, reflected yet another step in the normalization of self-identified communist and socialist ideologies in the Obama era. Not only did the SEIU help to organize the rally in conjunction with communists, they marched side-by-side with communists, while union members carried communist flags, communists carried union signs, and altogether there was no real way to tell the two apart.

Al Qaeda vowed revenge last night after confirming its ‘holy warrior’ leader was dead.
In a statement dripping with venom, the terror group promised Americans their ‘happiness will turn into sorrow’ for killing Osama Bin Laden.
The United States and its allies had ‘opened the doors of evil’, declared the fanatical organisation founded by Bin Laden.
The global militant group vowed Bin Laden’s blood would not be wasted. It also pledged to release an audio tape made by its doomed leader a week before he died.
Its statement, released on Islamic websites, said: ‘The holy warrior Shiekh Osama bin Mohammed bin Laden, God have mercy on him, was killed on the path taken by those before him and will be taken by others after him. Congratulations to the Islamic community for the martyrdom of its son Osama.’ It said Bin Laden’s blood ‘is more precious to us and to every Muslim than to be wasted in vain’ and added: ‘It will remain a curse that haunts the Americans and their collaborators and chases them outside and inside their country.
‘Their happiness will turn into sorrow, and their blood will be mixed with their tears.’
Data seized in the raid revealed plans were already drawn up for Al Qaeda attacks on U.S. trains on the tenth anniversary of 9/11 this year.

Pagans Get Outdoor Chapel at Air Force Academy
by Tom Roeder
Add Wiccans and Druids to the list of faiths that have their own chapel at the Air Force Academy.
A circle of stones around an altar was dedicated on a hilltop above the campus Tuesday with earth-centered prayer and speeches about religious liberty at the academy, a school that has long faced criticism as a bastion for evangelical Christianity.
“This outdoor worship space is something we have created to help people of all religions,” Lt. Gen. Michael Gould, the academy’s superintendent, said before a ribbon cutting on the site.
The academy is home to about 10 cadets who regularly attend “earth centered” worship groups. Earth-centered is a catch-all phrase for groups including New Age religion, paganism, Wicca, Druids and ancient Norse beliefs.

Sharia Silliness
by Bill Warner
Now that Sharia law is getting more attention, Islam is rolling out its defenses to defuse and confuse the thinking and the not-so-thinking public. If you are a watcher or connoisseur of Islamic politics, it is fascinating to see how similar the different arguments are. Read one apologist for Islam and you have read all of the apologists.
Argument 1:
• Sharia is not static; it changes and evolves.
This promises the hope of reformation over time if Islam becomes more moderate. Islam is the doctrine found in the Koran and the Sunna of Mohammed. Mohammed is the perfect Muslim and his every act and word is to be imitated by all Muslims. The Sunna of Mohammed is found in the Hadith (his traditions) and the Sira (his actions). The complete Islamic doctrine is Allah and Mohammed, or Koran, Sira and Hadith.
Sharia is the interpretation of the doctrine of Islam. Of course, the interpretations change, but they keep being drawn from the same 1400 year old texts. The Sharia circles the sun of Allah and Mohammed, so the evolution of Sharia turns out to be an orbit. The Sharia becomes looser and tighter over the course of history, but it is still the same Sharia and still obeys all of the fundamentals found in the texts of Koran, Sira and Hadith.
One of the biggest fundamental principles of Islam is the Kafir, the non-Muslim. No matter how the Sharia changes, Kafirs are still the same Allah-cursed creature that Mohammed annihilated whenever possible. No amount of adaptation can change the cruel place that the Kafir has in Islam and the Sharia.

Superman Renounces U.S. Citizenship in 'Action Comics' #900
by Laura Hudson
Read More...
After recently undertaking a journey to walk -- not fly -- across the United States in the "Grounded" storyline and reconnect with the country and everyday Americans, Superman appears to be taking another step that could have major implications for his national identity: in Action Comics #900...
...Superman announces that he is going to give up his U.S. citizenship. Despite very literally being an alien immigrant, Superman has long been seen as a patriotic symbol of "truth, justice, and the American way," from his embrace of traditional American ideals to the iconic red and blue of his costume. What it means to stand for the "American way" is an increasingly complicated thing, however, both in the real world and in superhero comics, whose storylines have increasingly seemed to mirror current events and deal with moral and political complexities rather than simple black and white morality.
The key scene takes place in "The Incident," a short story in Action Comics #900 written by David S. Goyer with art by Miguel Sepulveda. In it, Superman consults with the President's national security advisor, who is incensed that Superman appeared in Tehran to non-violently support the protesters demonstrating against the Iranian regime, no doubt an analogue for the recent real-life protests in the Middle East. However, since Superman is viewed as an American icon in the DC Universe as well as our own, the Iranian government has construed his actions as the will of the American President, and indeed, an act of war.

Palestinians working in settlements earn double
Evil, greedy Jews pay Palestinian workers twice as
much as kind, compassionate Palestinian employers
by I Hate The Media
We’re pretty sure that this is just some Zionist trickery. Some evil plot to lure innocent Palestinians into slavery. Some nefarious … what’s that? The statistics were released by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics?
Oh, crap. This doesn’t work with the media’s narrative.
The Jerusalem Post has the details:
Palestinians who work in settlements in the West Bank are paid twice as much as those who are employed by other Palestinians, according to figures released on Thursday by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.
According to the Statistics Bureau, the nominal daily median net wage of Palestinians who worked in the West Bank was NIS 76.9 in 2010, while those who were employed in settlements received NIS 150 per day.
The bureau’s Labor Force Survey showed that the Palestinian unemployment rate in the West Bank last year stood at more than 17%, while in the Gaza Strip it reached almost 38%.
Earlier this month, the bureau found that poverty in the Palestinian territories was less prevalent than previously believed. Slightly more than one out of four people lived below the poverty line last year.
Dani Dayan, who heads the Council of Jewish Communities of Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip, welcomed reports of an increase in Palestinians workers in the settlements.
“It is a positive thing both for Israelis and for the Palestinians,” he said.
“I think the reality of fruitful coexistence that [PA Prime Minister] Salam Fayyad tried to undermine is stronger than his boycott plan,” Dayan said. “The only way to promote peaceful coexistence is through cooperative endeavors.”

US to Sell GM Stake at $11 Billion Loss
by Forrest Jones
The government plans to sell most of its remaining stake in General Motors in the coming months and lose $11 billion in the process, The Wall Street Journal reports.
With taxpayer money, the government rescued General Motors for $50 billion in 2009 To get that money back, the U.S. Treasury will need to sell its remaining stake of around 500 million shares at $53 apiece. GM is currently trading around $30, even dipping below that figure, on the New York Stock Exchange, below its $33-a-share November initial public offering.
The company, meanwhile, raised discounts to $400 per vehicle in January and February with the aim of boosting sales, which didn't help stock prices at all. Company CEO Dan Akerson says he supports the move. "I feel pretty good about that. I think we're in pretty good shape," Akerson says, according to the Associated Press.
